Industry Loses Former Stepan Co. CEO

F. Quinn Stepan, the longtime Stepan Co. chairman, president, and CEO passed away on May 13.

Born in 1937 and raised in Winnetka, Illinois, Stepan joined the U.S. Army after graduating from the University of Notre Dame. In 1961, he assumed leadership of Stepan Co., an organization his father had founded in 1932.

A tireless advocate for the cleaning industry, Stepan was a former chairman of the board of directors of The Soap and Detergent Association (now known as the American Cleaning institute—or ACI) and served on the board for seven years. In 2010, he received ACI’s 2010 Elva Walker Spillane Distinguished Service Award, which honors extensive and exceptional service and leadership within the association and the industry at-large.
