U.S. House, 21 States, and Four Cities Proclaim International Cleaning Week 2025
The U.S. House of Representatives, 21 states, and multiple municipalities across the country proclaimed March 23-29, 2025, International Cleaning Week, which celebrates the value of clean and the important, positive impact that cleaning has on public health, the environment, and our economy. This designated week represents a unique opportunity to raise public awareness about the value of clean and show appreciation for cleaning professionals around the world.
“International Cleaning Week is an important opportunity to highlight the hidden heroes who work behind the scenes to make sure our schools, hospitals, hotels, and workplaces are healthy and clean. It is great to have governors across the political spectrum recognize the essential nature of the cleaning industry by officially proclaiming Cleaning Week in their state,” said ISSA Director of Government Affairs John Nothdurft.
A total of 21 states—Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin—all officially designated a week dedicated to the industry. Five states—Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Nebraska–and four cities—Cleveland, Houston, Indianapolis, and Phoenix–proclaimed a Cleaning Week for the first time.
Additionally, we secured an in-person proclamation signing ceremony with Governor Jim Pillen in Nebraska and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker taped this video recognizing this year’s industry-wide celebration.
Congressmen Darin LaHood (R-IL-18) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-8) introduced a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives, stating that “The House of Representatives recognizes the commitment and essential services provided by the cleaning industry in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions; and supports the designation of ‘National Cleaning Week’ to continue to promote safe and clean environments at work, in schools, and at home.”
“ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, thanks Representatives LaHood and Krishnamoorthi for introducing this bipartisan Cleaning Week resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the 20+ governors that also recognized Cleaning Week in their states,” said ISSA Executive Director John Barrett. “The cleaning and facility-solutions industry is honored to receive this recognition of the essential role that frontline cleaning professionals, as well as manufacturers and distributors of cleaning products play in keeping spaces clean, healthy, and safe. These resolutions and proclamations contribute significantly to changing the way the nation and the world view cleaning.”
